Introduction

I have made this a single scrolling page for several reasons, mainly the ease of use.  There is less likely hood of things going wrong with missing pages/links, so those people who will want to buy, can see everything  without flipping backwards and forwards with multiple pages.


The cupboards and cabinets  you see here were all designed and made at the studio in Fernhurst U.K. but they really do have to be seen close-up to see the details,  nevertheless you can see what they generally look like but you cannot see the finer details. If you would like to buy from me then please pay attention to following instructions.

FIRST  STEP
1. Decide which design you prefer from the above examples.
2. You can have your own theme interpreted if you don’t like anything here.
3.  Phone me if you live in the U.K. Or e-mail me.
4.  If you are from overseas then DEFINITELY e-mail me. And use (SUBJECT cupboards?)
SECOND STEP
1. We will discuss subject, colours, delivery times, and any extras required (secret panels)
and of course price.
2. If you order, then a deposit of 25 per cent must be paid (and cleared if its a cheque/check)
3. I only deal with Paypal, I do not accept credit cards (OVERSEAS clients will have details in my e-mail)
3b  Pay by personal cheque  if you live in the U.K. Clearance before shipping
4  An extra fee is charged for shipping and insurance. Details in e-mail.
5  Overseas clients must pay any local import duties and custom charges themselves.
6  Shipping charges depend on weight, and until the cupboard is made I cannot tell you the exact cost.  I will give you an approximate figure when you make contact with me.
7  Nothing will be sent to you unless you have approved the final design.  I will send  photos by  post or by e-mail for your final approval. NO returns, or money can be refunded if you have approved the design. And have requested delivery based on the approval-photos.
8   I will give a full refund of your deposit if you do not like my design at the approval stage.
9.  Final payment (HOWEVER PAID) must be cleared before any cabinet or cupboard is shipped.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
     I Gilson Chapple was born in 1937 and at 16 studied fine art at Guildford collage of Art in the fifties for 6 years. My mentors were Leonard Stopani and Dudley Holland.  My favourite artists are  Gustav Klimpt and Picasso, not forgetting Rembrandt, Manet, and  Bacon. At 18 I did national service in the (R.A.M.C.) and passed examinations in nursing  and subsequently taught other soldiers the treatment of battle-burns. After my two year stint I returned to civilian life and took various jobs to earn money to support my wife Barbara  and daughter Julia.. I divorced in the early 60s and moved to Surrey where I set up a studio for the restoration of antique furniture which has developed into a thriving business over 47 years.
    I have always kept up with my art and these cabinets you see here were  at first a complete  accident as they were inspired by  some off-cuts which fell to floor while I was sawing a piece of wood for a fancy picture frame.  The designs are unique and will never be repeated the same way twice over, even if it’s the same basic design.
  Every cabinet that I have made I have sold, and 5 went to the same collector in 2005.
I am still busy in the studio restoring clients antiques but also find time to make these beautiful hanging cupboards and cabinets for collectors and art lovers.

THE CABINETS AND CUPBOARDS
All these designs are original and made here in Fernhusrt.  They are made from marine quality ply and waterproof quality mdf  (which gives stability in centrally heated conditions.)  They are sometimes decorated with  real mother of pearl, real gold leaf  and
metal ‘gold leaf. I buy ‘jewels’ from my friend who visits India twice a year.  The paint I use is acrylic, but I have a secret finish which I  am not prepared to reveal here.
  Each design takes around 2 to4 weeks to complete, so you see I can only make a few each year.  Please be patient if you find yourself at the back-end of the list.
  I must point out that the doors do not have locks and are not intended to. The reason  that the doors are deliberately designed to ‘hang open’ a little is to give a more sculptural look.
   Those cabinets which have a central motif are purposely made with the doors designed to open fully. This ‘open look’ is very attractive BUT it is in some ways a personal choice as to whether the doors remain open or closed.  Please NEVER attempt to fit locks or catches, the doors are meant to be slightly on ajar.
   Any design can be made smaller than the measurements stated or bigger. The price will be marginally cheaper if you decide on smaller!

THE SECRET PANELS
These are very often requested, and for some unknown reason are nearly always erotic. The examples above are  just two designs that can be incorporated. I usually fit a sliding panel on the inside of the door, usually the right door.The panel itself only remains secret insofar that it is hidden from view until someone decides whether or not to slide the panel up to view it.
Other ideas are also possible and I have had requests for a sliding panel with a favourite poem or love letter, or simply a quotation from a famous person, or even a Bible quote or
